- Apricum supported the preparation of Meyer Burger’s business plan and financial model for project HOPE (High-efficiency Onshore PV module production in Europe), ensuring eligibility for €200 million in funding from the EU Innovation Fund’s third call for large-scale projects
- Project HOPE aims to add an additional 3.5 gigawatts of solar cell and solar module manufacturing capacity in Germany and potentially in Spain
- The planned expansion of Meyer Burger’s European solar cell and module manufacturing base will contribute to the re-building of Europe’s upstream solar PV value chain
Apricum is proud to have contributed to the re-building of the European solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing industry by assisting Meyer Burger in securing a €200 million grant to expand Europe’s domestic solar PV cell and module manufacturing capacity. As part of the award process, this official selection decision will be followed by a formal grant decision made by the European Union, expected by the end of the year.
“This achievement will be pivotal in delivering the EU’s goal of developing a much-needed domestic solar PV manufacturing industry to meet growing demand for renewable energy”
– Nikolai Dobrott, founder and managing partner, Apricum
As part of their consulting engagement, Apricum provided advisory services to Meyer Burger, a leading European solar PV cell and module manufacturer. Apricum worked closely with Meyer Burger’s leadership team and PNO Consultants on the grant application. Apricum’s role was two-fold: building the financial model and preparing the business plan.
Nikolai Dobrott, founder and CEO of Apricum, commented, “We are proud to have helped Meyer Burger successfully apply for the necessary funding to accelerate the growth of their PV module manufacturing capacity. This achievement will be pivotal in delivering the EU’s goal of developing a much-needed domestic solar PV manufacturing industry to meet growing demand for renewable energy.”
For decades, Europe’s energy independence goals have been hampered by a persistent inability to scale its solar PV module production. To meet this challenge, the EU has instituted its Innovation Fund for Large Scale Projects, an initiative that supports, amongst others, the increased manufacturing of components for local renewable energy production. Based on close cooperation between Meyer Burger, Apricum and PNO Consultants, Meyer Burger was one of the few companies in the cleantech sector to have been successfully considered for the grant.
