Apricum – the Cleantech Advisory is happy to welcome hydrogen energy expert Dr. Jamie Frew to its team of senior advisors. Dr. Frew’s deep technical hydrogen knowledge and practical business experience will further enhance Apricum’s ability to deliver the valuable strategic advice that enables its clients to accelerate and profit from the global energy transition.
Dr. Frew’s more than 20 years of energy and chemical experience covers low-carbon value chains and business development, decarbonization strategy consulting, solar and wind-to-hydrogen technical project management and renewable energy innovation. After completing his studies, Dr. Frew began his early professional energy career in Scotland as an account manager and project manager for the global energy provider Schlumberger before moving to Indonesia to work as a technical professional and project manager for Haliburton. From there, he returned to Europe to work as a business development manager for Air Liquide – Large Industries, including several major hydrogen-based decarbonization projects in the Port of Rotterdam industrial cluster.
He also developed HyFloat, a novel floating offshore foundation designed to supply renewable hydrogen by harnessing deep ocean wind resources, earning a series of awards and grants. He is also an active member of the Global Scot Network – Hydrogen Group which advises the Scottish Government on international opportunities in the growing hydrogen industry.
Some of Dr. Frew’s more impressive projects include leading a first-of-a-kind Middle Eastern solar and wind power to gas project for a national oil company and advising on more than €2 BN (total CAPEX) of EU ETS Innovation Fund & IPCEI projects for major European energy players. He has also led a series of technical and market studies for various novel hydrogen technologies and projects.
Dr. Frew has a bachelor’s degree with honors in chemistry from Aberdeen’s Robert Gordon University, an MBA from Rotterdam School of Management and earned his PhD in industrial chemistry and catalysis from the University of St Andrews in Scotland. With a deep interest in emerging climate positive chemical and energy technologies, Dr. Frew is passionate about the natural world and enjoys biking, trekking, and snowboarding in addition to being an avid traveler who has lived and worked in over 35 different countries.
